Claude Code v2.1.235: Prompt Spellcheck, Lighter Background Cloud Sessions, and More Precise Permission Dialogs
Claude Code v2.1.235 adds an optional spellcheck setting for the prompt input, reduces memory and CPU use while cloud sessions run in the background, and makes permission dialogs match what a grant would cover.
Claude Code v2.1.235 is a mid-sized release with 19 changelog entries. It adds an optional spellcheck for the prompt input, reduces the cost of cloud sessions running in the background, and tightens how permission dialogs describe what you are approving. Most of the remaining entries fix prompt input, markdown rendering, and dialog behavior in the terminal UI.
What’s New
Optional Spellcheck in the Prompt Input
A new optional spellcheck setting underlines misspelled words in the prompt input as you type. It uses your installed aspell, hunspell, or ispell.
Lighter Background Cloud Sessions
Memory and CPU usage are lower while cloud sessions such as /ultrareview or /autofix-pr run in the background. Their event streams are no longer re-scanned and re-rendered on every update.
Permission Dialogs That Match the Grant
Permission dialog display text and “don’t ask again” options now always match what a grant would cover. The “don’t ask again” option is withheld when the contents cannot be fully displayed.
Fixes and Improvements
- Permissions: Pressing Shift+Tab inside the permission prompt’s comment field no longer approves the edit and grants session-wide edit permission when it should close the field. Notebook cell delete/replace approval dialogs no longer silently omit the existing cell content when the notebook or cell could not be read; the dialog now says why.
- Agents and messaging: The Agent tool no longer advertises a general-purpose default in sessions where that agent is unavailable; an omitted
subagent_typethere now gets a clear error listing the available agents.SendMessagenow refuses messages too large for cross-session delivery up front instead of silently dropping them. - Prompt cache: A language server disconnecting or reconnecting mid-session no longer invalidates the whole prompt cache.
- Rendering and prompt input: Nested markdown list items no longer misalign at depth 3+, and wrapped list items now get a hanging indent in the terminal UI. Prompt input highlights (slash commands, keywords, mentions) no longer appear shifted by one or more characters in some multi-line prompts. Slash commands run while Claude is responding no longer show HTML entities instead of the actual characters.
- Footer and task list: The prompt footer now shows the “Update installed” restart notice after a background auto-update. The expanded task list (
ctrl+t) no longer always starts collapsed when you resume or relaunch into a session that still has open tasks. - Search: The embedded
grepin native macOS/Linux builds now fails fast on pathological patterns instead of exhausting memory, and-m Nwith-A/-Cprints correct context. - Errors: The context-limit error now says when auto-compact is off and points to
/configto re-enable it. - Vim mode and dialogs: Vim NORMAL mode and cursor position are now preserved when toggling the detailed transcript (
ctrl+o) or closing a panel. In dialogs, arrow keys and Enter pressed in quick succession now select the option you navigated to instead of the previously highlighted one. - Remote Control:
claude rcnow applies the same enterprise-gateway availability check as interactive startup. - VS Code: Focus no longer jumps between open Claude tabs on its own when a window with several Claude panels is restored or reloaded.
