Claude Code v2.1.206: /doctor Suggests Trimming CLAUDE.md, Gateway Login, and Background Agent Upgrades

Claude Code v2.1.206 adds /cd path suggestions, a /doctor check for trimming CLAUDE.md, gateway endpoint support in /login, and an EnterWorktree confirmation, plus fixes for MCP timeouts, OAuth, and the agents view.

Claude Code v2.1.206 pairs a set of workflow refinements with a long list of fixes. Highlights include directory suggestions for /cd, a new /doctor check for checked-in CLAUDE.md files, gateway endpoint support in /login, and background agents that upgrade right after a Claude Code update. The fixes cover MCP timeouts and OAuth, the /model picker, resuming sessions, and the agents view.

What’s New

Directory Suggestions for /cd

/cd now suggests directory paths as you type, matching the behavior of /add-dir.

/doctor Proposes Trimming CLAUDE.md

A new /doctor check proposes trimming checked-in CLAUDE.md files by cutting content Claude could derive from the codebase.

/commit-push-pr Pushes to Your Configured Remote

/commit-push-pr now auto-allows git push to the repo’s configured push remote in addition to origin. The push remote is remote.pushDefault, or the sole remote when only one is configured.

Gateway Endpoints in /login

/login now supports Anthropic-operated public gateway endpoints.

EnterWorktree Confirmation

EnterWorktree now asks for confirmation before entering a git worktree outside the project’s .claude/worktrees/ directory.

Background Agents Upgrade Right After an Update

Background agents now upgrade to the new version in the background right after a Claude Code update, instead of going through a slow stale-session upgrade when you attach.

Agents View Changes

The status column now uses the full terminal width instead of truncating at 64 characters. Ctrl+X now permanently removes a completed session, sessions no longer render twice, and deleted background jobs stay deleted.

Fixes and Improvements

  • Login: An expired login no longer fails every model with a misleading “There’s an issue with the selected model” error; you are now prompted to run /login. /remote-control no longer shows “Unknown command” when you are logged out and instead explains how to sign in.
  • Resuming sessions: claude --resume and --continue now respond to keyboard input on startup. On Windows, keyboard input is no longer ignored in the agents view when a setup prompt appears before a bare claude --resume.
  • MCP: Servers configured via --mcp-config or .mcp.json now honor a per-server request_timeout_ms; previously, long-running MCP tool calls timed out at the 60s default in fresh sessions. OAuth MCP servers no longer require manual re-authentication after a single failed token refresh, and --permission-prompt-tool pointing at an MCP server no longer crashes with “MCP tool not found” on cold start before the server finishes connecting.
  • Background agents: CLAUDE_CODE_EXTRA_BODY is no longer silently ignored by claude agents / --bg background workers; the shell-exported override now follows the dispatching session. claude rm no longer leaves the removed job in the daemon roster, which had made the row reappear in claude agents.
  • /model picker: Rows no longer show a price for a different model than the one they name, first-party list prices are no longer quoted on providers that don’t bill them, and server-provided model rows are no longer misplaced when an entitlement or allowlist restriction drops the row they were positioned against.
  • /doctor and /status: The /doctor update check now compares Homebrew installs against their cask’s channel instead of the settings channel, and /status no longer lists the same broken-install warning twice.
  • Code review: /code-review findings quality is improved on Claude Opus 4.8 (claude-opus-4-8) across all effort levels.
  • Desktop: Desktop sessions no longer get stuck showing “running” after a slash command is sent mid-turn.
  • Bedrock: Fixed a multi-minute startup hang when using an awsCredentialExport helper on networks with restricted egress.
  • Plugins: LSP plugins no longer trigger false “disused plugin” tips or skewed disuse telemetry.
  • Interface: Left arrow now steps back out of a phase or agent in the workflow detail view. The fullscreen jump-to-bottom pill no longer suggests Ctrl+End on macOS, now shows rebound chords, and no longer wraps over the transcript.

This release contains 27 changes in total; see the full changelog for every item.
