Claude Code v2.1.88: A Tag With No Release
Claude Code v2.1.88 exists as a git tag but was never published: no npm package, no release notes, and no changelog entry. The features this page once described shipped in v2.1.89.
Corrected October 22, 2026: this page previously described v2.1.88 as a shipped release and listed features for it. Those features belong to v2.1.89. The page now records what is actually verifiable about v2.1.88.
Claude Code v2.1.88 was never published. If you are here because a tool or a document mentioned that version, this is why you cannot install it.
What’s New
Nothing, for users. What can be verified about v2.1.88 is narrow:
- The git tag exists.
refs/tags/v2.1.88is present inanthropics/claude-code. - There is no GitHub Release. The releases API returns 404 for that tag; the page you reach is GitHub’s generic view of a tag.
- There is no npm package.
@anthropic-ai/claude-codepublishes 2.1.87 and 2.1.89, with nothing between them. - There is no changelog entry. The official
CHANGELOG.mdgoes from 2.1.87 to 2.1.89.
The features this page used to attribute to v2.1.88 — the CLAUDE_CODE_NO_FLICKER=1 environment variable for flicker-free alt-screen rendering, and the PermissionDenied hook that fires after auto mode classifier denials — are both recorded in the official changelog under v2.1.89. Our v2.1.89 release notes cover them.
