Claude Code v2.1.266: Fix for a CLAUDE_CODE_USE_GATEWAY Regression from 2.1.265

Claude Code v2.1.266 fixes a 2.1.265 regression in which CLAUDE_CODE_USE_GATEWAY forced Cloud-gateway sign-in on its own, breaking LLM-gateway and proxy setups. No configuration change is needed.

Claude Code v2.1.266 is a single-fix release for a 2.1.265 regression that affected LLM-gateway and proxy setups.

What’s New

The changelog for this version lists one fix:

  • CLAUDE_CODE_USE_GATEWAY regression: The undocumented CLAUDE_CODE_USE_GATEWAY environment variable was previously ignored unless ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL and ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN were both set. In 2.1.265 it began forcing Cloud-gateway sign-in on its own, so configurations that set it alongside an API key, apiKeyHelper, or custom auth headers failed every request with “Not signed in to the Cloud gateway”. In 2.1.266, the variable on its own is ignored again.

How to Update

  1. Check your installed version: claude --version
  2. Update in place: claude update
  3. If you set CLAUDE_CODE_USE_GATEWAY and requests failed with “Not signed in to the Cloud gateway” on 2.1.265, update to this version; the changelog says no configuration change is needed.
