Claude Code v2.1.225: Gateway Spend-Limit Warnings, Workspace Trust in claude agents, and SendMessage to Remote Sessions

Claude Code v2.1.225 adds gateway spend-limit details to usage warnings and a workspace trust prompt to claude agents, and lets SendMessage start conversations with your Remote Control sessions by name.

Claude Code v2.1.225 contains 14 changelog entries. It adds gateway spend-limit details to the usage warning, brings the workspace trust prompt to claude agents, and lets SendMessage start conversations with your Remote Control sessions on other machines. The remaining changes fix authentication token handling, auto mode, cross-session messaging, and the VS Code Focus view.

What’s New

Gateway Spend Limits in Usage Warnings

Claude Code’s usage warning now supports gateway spend limits: the limit-reached message names the cap, its reset time, and the operator’s message. This requires the gateway to be on 2.1.225.

Workspace Trust Prompt in claude agents

claude agents now shows a workspace trust prompt for untrusted directories, matching the behavior of claude.

SendMessage Can Start Conversations with Remote Control Sessions

SendMessage can now start a conversation with your Remote Control sessions on other machines by name (ListAgents shows them as name [ref]), instead of only replying after they message you first. A Remote Control recipient you already confirmed is never swapped for a same-named session on this machine when its own list couldn’t be checked.

Photos from the Claude App Go Straight to Claude

In Remote Control, photos attached from the Claude app are now shown to Claude directly instead of being read from disk with a separate tool call.

Fixes and Improvements

Authentication

  • A transient 401 no longer replaces a long-lived CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN with a stored login’s short-lived token, which had broken headless sessions until restart.
  • MCP OAuth servers on macOS no longer intermittently fail with a burst of 401 errors, as if never authenticated, after a keychain read timed out.

Auto mode

  • A safety-filter refusal of auto mode’s own permission check no longer counts toward the consecutive-block limit; the action is still denied, but the model is now told to move on rather than retry.

Sessions and messaging

  • Cross-session messages no longer stay parked without a notice or expiry in headless sessions and during startup.
  • Conversation history no longer breaks on Remote Control session resume after very large conversations were compacted.
  • Hovering over a session in another project in the agents list no longer changes the directory the next agent starts in.
  • Claude Code on the web sessions are no longer misreported as stuck and no longer re-send a growing event backlog on every reconnect.

Self-hosted runner

  • claude self-hosted-runner no longer registers and then fails every session when --base-dir cannot be created or written; it now exits at startup with a clear error.

VS Code

  • Focus view no longer folds away the latest to-do list, a pending question’s context, or settled answers; thinking-only folds show “Thought for Ns” and re-collapse when their turn completes.

How to Update

  1. Check your installed version: claude --version
  2. Update in place: claude update
  3. If you use a gateway with spend limits, the new limit details in the usage warning require the gateway to be on 2.1.225 as well.
